Curated By Calum Crowther.
As a part of the Leicester City Festival for the bid of 2017 city of culture, The Fresh Meat Gallery will be curating the exhibition ‘LCB Takeover’ at the LCB Depot. The exhibition will explore emerging artists who’s work revolves around landscapes.
The work shown will span from paintings to conceptual installations. From Joe McKennas menacing, vibrant, turner inspired industrial landscapes, Paul Smiths impressionistic, calming seaside oil paintings, Annalaura Masciaves highly polished photographs of the protected areas of Italy, Siàn Wrights haunting and delicate polaroids of urban scenes and Samantha Brackens conceptual knitted installation which alludes to a landscape that the artist created herself.
Each of these artist approaches the ideas of landscape differently some finding the fragility within the scene they depict to the more cynical ideals of big business and the consideration they make to the environment. Each having a different refreshing insight but are all joined by the notion of knowing something is bigger than all of us.
After the festival the art will be exhibited in The LCB Depot for 3 months with the aim of bringing colourful, vibrant, positive art to the LCB Depot with the hope of inspiring the visitors of this creative hub.
“Sometimes, when one is moving silently through such an utterly desolate landscape, an overwhelming hallucination can make one feel that oneself, as an individual human being, is slowly being unraveled.”
